Summer Camps 2019
The Art of Storytelling
August 7 – August 9 | 9:30am – 12:30pm
AGES 9 – 15 | $75
Do you have stories just waiting to be told? Chicago writer Liz Grear teaches you how to turn your ideas into stories, then tell those stories through writing and performance art.
Through games, activities, and writing exercises Liz helps campers draw from their own wealth of personal experiences to create meaningful stories. Campers’ “on the page” and spoken word stories are then converted to screenplay format and kids will have the opportunity to act out their stories — with the only role they’re not allowed to play is themselves.
Camp wraps up with an ‘informance’ of student works on Friday afternoon at the Farmer’s Market.
Liz Grear is an MFA graduate from Columbia College Chicago where she studied creative writing and the teaching of writing. Liz is also a teaching artist for “Story Catchers” where she is the lead writing instructor and also tutored undergraduates at her college. Currently she is a bartender who gets to listen to strangers tell stories all day and then goes to her little Chicago apartment to write all night. Her dream to run a writing workshop in prison because she believes words can change things.
