Let's Get Graphic: DIY Screenprinting

AGES 18+ | $55

May 18 | 9:30am – 12pm

Join Nick Butcher and Nadine Nakanishi of the global print phenomenon Sonnenzimmer for a hands-on screen printing workshop full of surprises! Follow these leaders of improvisational artmaking by creating your own series of prints, making it up as you go! Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes gallery tour, build your own screen-printing contraption, make your own prints AND have your work featured in a wee animation, complete with a musical score created by YOU and DIY instruments. Snacks provided.

Backyard Clay Play

AGES 7+ | $45

Come along with local ceramic artist Jeff Blandford on an excavation exploration! Kids will get down and dirty digging up Michigan’s natural clay and learning about Native American pottery and the process in which it’s made. They’ll also create art of their own to take home.

S.T.E.A.M. Team: Vrooming Vehicles

AGES 6-12 | $65

June 20 – 21 | 10:00am – 1:00pm

Local toy inventors Jon & Sarah Vanderbeek, along with visiting engineers and designers, will teach campers how to create their own small toys during this 2-day workshop! Tinker, play and build non-motorized performance vehicles out of a variety of materials. Campers will work alongside professional creatives while learning about the magic behind how a 3D printer works

Kids "In the Heights"

Join us as we toast Latin American culture! Inspired by our opening musical “In the Heights” children will learn about and celebrate Latin music, art, language, food, and have an opportunity to learn dance moves from the choreographer of our “In The Heights” production.

Paper Mache: Larger Than Life Animals

AGES 7+ | $90

Get messy with mixed media artist Janie Stamm! Kids will be involved in the entire process of designing, constructing, covering and painting extra large papier-mache creatures.

S.T.E.A.M. Team: Pendulum Painting

AGES 4 – 8 and 9 – 14 | $45

Mini scientists will make a mesmerizing mess and become true artists as they combine Newton’s Laws with paint. How will the law of gravity work via a giant pendulum? Try to predict what pattern you will make and what can you do to change it. Experiment, explore and play during this dive into science, engineering, and art!

Creating Colorful Cookies

AGES 8 – 14 | $40

Create edible art with Grand Rapids baker Kara Bolt. Kids will learn techniques in icing, piping, and patterns and assist in the production of baking cookies with an expert.

All About The Bees

AGES 6 – 12 | $90

In this three day camp kids will visit a garden to learn about the beekeeping and the importance of bees to our environment. They’ll design and construct “bee hotels” with garden guru Scotty Jacobs from Specialty Gardens and install the works of functional art around the city of Saugatuck.

S.T.E.A.M Team: Crystallizing Cool

AGES 4 – 8 and 9 – 14| $55

What do crystals and Pepto Bismol have in common? What in the world is Bismuth anyway?
Mini S.T.E.A.M learners will be amazed as this harmless metal melts and cools revealing fantastic geometric patterns and atomic structures. Learn how to make your own crystals with this unique process and then show them off with your own creation – one-of-a-kind jewelry! Science + wearable art, what could be cooler?.

Art Attack!

AGES 4 – 7 and 8 – 12 | $175

Inspired by our wildly popular Paint-tastic! Camp, come spark your imagination during this week-long, multi-media experience. Campers will learn about five different artistic mediums and visit galleries to see examples. With each day focusing on a different style led by a local artist, students create a portfolio featuring five pieces of art and display their work at week’s end.

Drawing Remixed w/ Libby Vanderploeg

AGES 21+ | $55

July 18 | 6:00pm – 9:00pm

Explore your creativity with drawing prompts from Libby, followed by creation of a collage remix of your drawings. Through this process you’ll learn how to reimagine your own work as a colorful, unexpected medium. Fee includes all materials and one glass wine!

Folk-Tastic w/ Claire Wellin

AGES 6-12 | $45

Music is a language all its own. Through multi-media exploration with professional musician Claire Welin, campers dive into a mix of folk and jazz with brush and clay in hand!

Farm to Kitchen

AGES 6-12 | $45

With Evergreen Lane Creamery and The Farmhouse Deli! Starting with a field trip children will tour Fennville farm Evergreen Lane Creamery and learn and assist in the making of goats cheese. With their new found skills and knowledge they will head to The Farmhouse Deli to experiment and create delicious goat cheese recipes.

Crankies: Blast From the Past

AGES 7-14 | $100

July 24 – 26 | 9:30am – 12:00pm

A crankie is a moving panorama made with an illustrated scroll, dowels, a box, and of course a crank. In collaboration with The Saugatuck and Douglas Historical Center children will create crankies inspired by local history.

Acrylic Mixed Media

AGES 16+ | $150

Artist and Instructor Andrea Tama uses her passion for nature to guide adults through working with still lives and using multiple images to create unique paintings. Students will study a variety of still life arrangements and experiment with cropping and abstraction to create works.

Makin' Music With Red

AGES 7-12 | $45

August 5 | 9:30am – 11:30am

Come make music with Chris “Red” Blisset during this hands-on camp. Campers learn about everything from naming a band to the songwriting process. Then they write a song together with Red and turn themselves into a band and have a jam session with Red to play their song!

The Art of Storytelling

AGES 9 – 15 | $75

August 7 – August 9 | 9:30am – 12:30pm

Through games, activities, and writing exercises Chicago writer Liz Grear helps campers draw from their personal experiences to create meaningful stories. She guides campers in converting written stories to performances, concluding the camp with a Friday afternoon ‘informance’ by campers.

Comic Creation

AGES 8 – 12 | $45

Create a character. Discover their origin. Tell their story. Come learn the art of comic book creation with Grand Rapids artist Rayne Klar!

What Makes You Glow

AGES 8-16 | $90

What makes you glow? Over the course of this three-day workshop, campers will work exclusively with our Exhibition artists, Libby VanderPloeg and Ginnie Hsu. They will be challenged to create with light in unexpected ways through interactive drawings and conductive ink!
