Saugatuck, Allegan and Fennville make their big-screen debut in the film Mercury in Retrograde.

Saugatuck, Allegan and Fennville make their big-screen debut in the film Mercury in Retrograde, screening at the SCA on September 21. We have also created an exclusive VIP Preview Party the night before, at the cabin where the core of the movie was filmed!

Mercury in Retrograde tells the story of three Chicago couples at various stages of their relationships that come together for a weekend at a West Michigan cabin. The group soon teams up along gender lines, with the men and the women engaging in separate activities. The temporary separation from their respective partners shakes each of the sextet out of their familiar perspectives, accelerating below-the-surface shifts that will have a lasting impact on all of their lives.

You’ll see scenes shot at The Felt Mansion, the Sand Bar Saloon, Oval Beach, West Side County Park, downtown Allegan and in the beautiful cottage, Fern Hollow, where the VIP Preview Party will be held.

Director Michael Glover Smith says, “I decided to make a movie about three couples from Chicago vacationing together for a weekend at a cabin in Saugatuck/Fennville, Michigan. Stepping away from their daily routines for three days causes each of the six principal characters to take emotional stock of their lives and see their relationships in a new light.”

The VIP Preview Party is at the Fern Hollow cottage where the core of the movie was filmed. We’ve put together the perfect evening: hang out with filmmaker Michael Smith and actor/producer Shane Simmons, preview clips from the film, tour the grounds and enjoy craft drinks and fresh plates from The Kirby.

Each ticket comes with admission to the feature screening the next evening. You can buy your tickets here.

Mercury in Retrograde is a story about love, relationships and the variables that go into making it all work.

The movie is also a love story about West Michigan.

From lush forest paths to shimmering dunes, quaint downtown scenes to iconic watering holes, Mercury captures the heart and soul of the place we call home. Come join us to see Saugatuck on the big screen!

Directed by Michael Glover Smith.
