Learn how to build your own print machine, make a movie, AND start a band in just 2 hours or your money back.*
Printmaker/design duo extraordinaire Sonnenzimmer will teach you how to do just that. You’ll get a sneak peek at what inspires their boundary-busting practice and why they fight the good fight against artificial intelligence. You’ll build your own screens with found materials, print with stencils, turn mistakes into magic- and yes, create your own musical instruments from leftover workshop materials. You’ll walk away with your own series of prints AND a wee animation of the class’ creations, complete with a musical score made by you and your instruments!
Sonnenzimmer is Chicago-based artists Nick Butcher and Nadine Nakanishi. Early in their practice, Sonnenzimmer gained international acclaim for their playful screen-printed posters for experimental bands like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Dearhoof, and Cocorosie. Yet, their broad, genre-defying appeal is evident in clients like Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Newberry Library, Human Rights Watch, and Facebook. They’ve lead lectures and workshops at Yale University, California Institute for the Arts, The Art Institute of Chicago, Pratt Institute, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and Aalto University in Helsinki.
