Material Girls: Quilts by Judith Jarzembowski + Rugs by Judy Bowman Anthrop

M-F, 9AM – 5PM and during evening programs
Exhibition reception Thursday, April 17, 5-7PM
This fiber exhibit showcases more than 30 pieces from acclaimed regional artists, Judith Jarzembowski and Judy Bowman Anthrop. Inspired by their communities, families, and the remarkable Saugatuck-Douglas environment, their fiber works reflect the diversity, energy, and joy of their surroundings.
Jarzembowski’s quilts are noted for their super fine hand-work along with many pieces of hand-dyed fabrics. Her subjects range from vibrant displays of vegetables to saucy barnyard animals. Whatever her theme, Jarzembowski’s quilts are masterworks, exemplifying the highest level of this art form.
Anthrop’s hand-hooked rugs often feature lush landscapes from her home in West Michigan or from other inspiring locales. Anthop's works also include hand-dyed fiber and wholly original designs. She has taken this indigenous American art form and transformed it from purely functional to aesthetically noteworthy (though she will uses her pieces as functional rugs!).
Both women have exhibited extensively throughout West Michigan. Over the years they formed and joined quilting and rug hooking groups, and founded The Black River Gallery together. Material Girls is the first posthumous showing of Jarzembowski’s works. The SCA is delighted to bring this very special show to our West Michigan community.
