7:00PM - 8:30PM

Join guest host Jason Passata for a conversation with artists/designers/inventors Jon and Sarah Vanderbeek of Sweet Spot Studio.
Jon and Sarah talk about how they got involved with inventing and working on toy design for major companies including Mattel and Hasbro (think Thomas the Train, Jurassic Park, My Little Pony, Hotwheels, and more!).  They’ll share their sources of inspiration, and explain the design process including some of their trickiest design problems. They’ll also talk about the toys they still love to play with!
Sarah Vanderbeek started Sweet Spot Studio in February 2006 after many years employed in the giftware industry. Sarah has an Industrial Design B.S. from the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP program. Prior to founding Sweet Spot she worked at Design Central, The Obb (Kiscom), and Salomon. Jon Vanderbeek has a background inventing toys with renowned companies like The Obb and Bang Zoom. After several successes in the toy industry, Jon joined the effort to help Sweet Spot Studio grow in the summer of 2006. He has an Industrial Design B.S. Cum Laude from the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP program. His expertise in Industrial Design, mechanisms, electronics and model making are being utilized to develop new products for Sweet Spot Studio and their clients.
